でQVB(クイーン・ヴィクトリア・ビルディング)へ向かい、歴史ある豪華な建築に圧倒されました。

[Sydney Family Trip for 3] Breathtaking Views & Gourmet Eats! A Relaxing 6-Day, 5-Night Australia Travelogue
My wife, our daughter, and I—a family of three—finally took our long-awaited trip to Sydney, Australia!
This was our very first time visiting the Southern Hemisphere. Here is our travelogue of an unforgettable 6-day, 5-night trip where we enjoyed breathtaking nature, amazing local beer and food, and most importantly, quality time together as a family.
9/16 (Wed): Off to Sydney! Boarding the Night Flight with Excitement
We boarded flight NH879 departing Haneda at 22:45, bound for Sydney at last! Excitement filled the air as the three of us stepped onto the plane, looking forward to our very first journey to the Southern Hemisphere.
9/17 (Thu): Arriving in Sydney! Harbor Views & Fresh Seafood
We arrived safely in Sydney at 9:25 AM! As soon as we stepped off the plane, we were greeted by the crisp, refreshing air.
Immigration and customs were surprisingly smooth, taking only about five minutes in total. When asked, “Do you have any food?” I just replied, “Candy,” and we were cleared right away. I had nervously prepared English explanations for our medications, but I breathed a sigh of relief when we didn’t even need them.
We took an Uber from the airport. Uber in Australia was super efficient—you just show the PIN code displayed on your app to the attendant at the designated pickup area, and they guide you to your car. I was really impressed by how organized it was.
After dropping off our luggage at the Shangri-La Hotel, we walked over to Circular Quay. Having our very first beer under the bright blue sky while gazing at Sydney Harbour and the iconic Harbour Bridge was pure bliss! That was the moment it truly sank in: “We’re finally in Sydney!”
We took a charming, retro light rail (super convenient as you can just tap with a VISA card!) to the QVB (Queen Victoria Building) and were blown away by its grand, historic architecture. Next, we headed to Wild Life Sydney Zoo and Sea Life Sydney Aquarium in Darling Harbour. We loved seeing the adorable koalas, resting kangaroos, and impressive sharks. Since both are indoor attractions, we could comfortably enjoy them without getting exhausted.
Feeling hungry, we caught the light rail to the Sydney Fish Market in Glebe, where we treated ourselves to fresh lobster and sashimi. It was an absolute feast for both our appetites and spirits!
Returning to the hotel and entering our room, we were greeted by a panoramic view of Sydney Harbour right outside our window! The spectacular view instantly washed away the fatigue from our long trip, leaving us all feeling deeply relaxed.
In the evening, after refreshing ourselves with a nice bath, we headed to “Harts Pub” right next to the hotel. Sitting at an outdoor table, we ordered local craft beer (Pickled Monkey Lager) and popcorn chicken via smartphone. Soaking in the lively local atmosphere was the perfect end to our first incredible day.
9/18 (Fri): Majestic Nature in the Blue Mountains & a Delicious Steak
Today, we joined a half-day tour to the Blue Mountains, something we had been eagerly anticipating. After a 90-minute drive from the InterContinental Hotel, we arrived at Scenic World in the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains.
Riding the Scenic Cableway down into the valley and strolling along the Walkway surrounded by eucalyptus trees felt so refreshing, as if the pure air was rejuvenating our whole bodies. Taking the thrilling Scenic Railway and Skyway brought out the kid in all of us!
The stunning view of the Three Sisters from Echo Point was truly breathtaking. We bought a Blue Mountains T-shirt as a souvenir, and in the quaint town of Leura, we picked up some eucalyptus candy with honey. It was a thoroughly satisfying day exploring Australia’s vast nature.
Back in Sydney city, we enjoyed a mouthwatering dinner at Kingsley’s Steak House. Wanting to savor the remaining moments of the day, we grabbed some beer and a Caesar salad to go from the hotel lobby lounge and enjoyed a quiet evening in our room.
9/19 (Sat): Opera House Tour & an Elegant Dinner Cruise
In the morning, we walked to Sydney’s iconic symbol, the Opera House. We joined a guided tour inside and were surprised to discover that the building, which looks pure white from a distance, is actually made of cream and beige tiles! Climbing the 200 steps while taking in the grand interior design and majestic auditorium was truly inspiring and satisfied our curiosity.
After the tour, we refreshed at “Yo-Chi” with some frozen yogurt and beer before taking a short rest at the hotel.
In the evening, it was time for the highlight of our trip: a Sydney Harbour Dinner Cruise (guaranteed window seat)! The lamb main course we chose was incredibly tender and delicious. Paired with great local beers like Young Henrys Pale Ale and Lager, it was the ultimate treat.
After dinner, we stepped out onto the deck to admire the glittering night lights of Sydney. Gazing at the beautiful view with the cool night breeze on our faces was a truly unforgettable memory for our family.
9/20 (Sun)–21 (Mon): Relaxing at Cronulla Beach & a Reassuring Flight Home
On our final day, after checking out, we took an Uber to the airport, stored our suitcases, and hopped on a train to the coastal suburb of Cronulla.
We took a leisurely stroll along the shore while taking in the sea breeze, then enjoyed beer, fried calamari, and fish dishes at a restaurant overlooking the ocean. The relaxed, local beach atmosphere away from the tourist bustle was the perfect way to unwind at the end of our trip.
After returning to the airport and buying souvenirs, we headed to the Air New Zealand lounge. Enjoying beers poured by the bartender and warm food, we happily chatted about our favorite memories from the past few days.
We were a little anxious about Typhoon No. 25 approaching Japan, but the pilot gave a reassuring announcement: “We are taking all safety precautions, so please relax and enjoy your flight.” Hearing those warm and reliable words gave us great peace of mind as we headed home.
The 6 days and 5 nights flew by in a flash, but surrounded by Sydney’s beautiful scenery, rich nature, delicious food, and warm people, our family of three shared truly irreplaceable moments. It has become a beloved city that we definitely want to visit again!
That’s all.
